My story was prompted by the US flags. I didn't receive the paint can pic. My fiction piece is controversial. If I offend any Trump supporters, I do apologize in advance. http://losingcinderella.blogspot.ca/

Right on! Your story nailed it. It is a voice of reason in a cacophony of sound bites.

Great story, June! I completely agree with your story and as a fellow Canadian, I too feel sorry for my American friends as they are not sure what they are going to do.

Your American neighbors also hope this national bridge tournament has a good and peaceful ending. Well said!

Anything patriotic reminds me of my Aunt Helen, who is the inspiration for this story.

I always enjoy reading stories that honour our servicemen and servicewomen. Your Aunt sounds like a wonderful person who cares for her fellow man. You are lucky to have her in your life. Thanks for this.

What a touching story, Sharon. Servicemen and servicewomen are so important. Last night was my son's athletic banquet for his high school. He won many awards but the biggest honour was receiving The Randy Payne Captain's Award. This award is memory of Corporal Randy Payne who died in Afghanistan in 2006 while serving Canada.

The men and woman who volunteer to serve deserve our deepest respect. Well done!

I didn't receive the flag prompt and just the paint one. I almost skipped it but decided to go for it anyway. Here it is! https://sandrajjackson.wordpress.com/2016/06/08/writerly-wednesday-look-on-the-sunny-side/

She found the can in the cabinet with a brush and a color sketch of the porch. He had been tinkering around the house, fixing things, prettying things; he hoped his efforts would bring a better price when he put the house on the market.

With tears forming, she held the sketch as she looked at the porch. What was in color pencil in the sketch didn’t yet exist on the porch. He never got a chance to do this project.

She opened the can, gathered the brush, and slowly started painting. This is what he would have wanted.

He was born in this house and he died in this house. She moved in when she married him. They were going to sell the house and move closer to the kids.

As she painted and cried, she decided. She made up her mind. She too would die in this house.
